SS 321 is stabilized with titanium (minimum 5Γ carbon content) to prevent sensitization at elevated temperatures. The titanium preferentially combines with carbon, preventing chromium carbide formation at grain boundaries. Ideal for service in the 425β900Β°C range where sensitization of standard 304 would cause intergranular corrosion.
